“Why Can’t We Remember the Future?”(05/26/24)

Rev. Mary Murray Shelton

How does time actually work? Physicists don’t really know why the “arrow of time” seems to point toward the future from the past. Can we remember the future? People who have premonitions may be doing just that. Is a “deja vu” feeling an indication that we’re doing that ourselves? “Memory” is a present moment experience, not, for most people, an exact recording of past events. We’re influenced, while we’re remembering, by where we are now, who we’re with, how we’re feeling, and what’s happened in our lives since the “remembered” event took place. These color and embellish memories in ways we don’t usually realize.

What could it mean to be free from the limitations of time, as God is?
