“We Are All Practitioners” (04/07/24)

Rev. Mary Murray Shelton

The founder of Centers for Spiritual Living, Ernest Holmes, made a distinction between our licensed practitioners, who are trained to do affirmative prayer for others, and the rest of the congregants. This distinction is a matter of degree. Everyone who learns to pray affirmatively and chooses to do so regularly is a practitioner—one who practices this art and science. Only those who are trained and licensed do spiritual counsel and prayer for others, charging for their time and expertise.

This means we don’t need to hesitate to pray in this way until we take a class or get it perfectly. We can pray for ourselves and others in our lives at the drop of a hat. Today we’ll explore that kind of dedication to prayer, and why and how the practice transforms our lives.
