What is an ideal Dad? Courageous, kind, calm, balanced, wise, funny, affectionate, fair, thoughtful, supportive, encouraging, and self-aware. We might think of these as an idealistic idea of who dads can be. No Dad is always all of these consistently. That might lead us to think of our own Dad as flawed and imperfect. But let’s consider this: what if our Dad’s own “flaws” perfectly dovetail with what we need to learn? Then the flaws might also be perfect for our own soul’s expansion and awareness. The worst dads might still be the perfect examples of what we don’t want to do. Maybe that means our own Dad was perfect for what our soul wanted to learn. Now that we have, what kind of parent to ourselves do we want to become?
