“Overcoming Fear of the Dark” (05/07/23)

Rev. Mary Murray Shelton

Human beings can be fearful of almost anything. We usually fear things that look or feel unfamiliar and possibly dangerous. We can also become afraid of repeating a negative experience that caused us trauma of some kind. In some cases we’ve been unintentionally programmed to fear things our parents feared.

The great thing about fear is that it’s just information. It reminds us to pay attention and be mindful of what we’re doing and where we’re going. It’s more productive to think of it as a flashing yellow light and not turn it into a red light that stops us completely. Today we’ll consider together how to shift our power away from the fear and toward our faith.
