Follow Your Bliss (09/11/22)

Rev. Mary Murray Shelton

When Joseph Campbell made this statement in an interview with Bill Moyers in 1988, it became a clarion call for spiritual adventurers to move toward what makes them happiest and most productive in their work. Whether it’s what we’re most talented at and comes easily, or it’s a huge stretch, thinking we can have creative expression that brings us joy in our work is a big idea.

What makes you joyful? What activity fills you with enthusiasm, focus, energy and enjoyment? What kind of work motivates you to move through challenges and outlast hardships—to persist, rather than giving up when the going is rough?

Campbell indicated that the universe opens paths and doors for us when we choose our bliss, but we do have to be open to seeing and acting on opportunities. We’ll look at these ideas today and open toward “our bliss.”
