Professional gymnasts have to learn to orient themselves so that even upside-down and turning in mid-air they know exactly where they are. We can take a page from their book. To spot familiar “landmarks” that help to bring us greater balance, we focus, metaphysically, on the qualities of life and people that tend to ground us and restore our orientation.
We may be in the midst of a time of change, but the qualities we value persist even in the midst of what is unfamiliar or worrying. Courage, honesty, humor and kindness can become our compass points. Let’s claim those today and let them bring us to a feeling of “home” even when outer conditions feel foreign or uncomfortable.
