There’s a long tradition of attributing my title question to Albert Einstein, the brilliant German-born theoretical physicist who gave us the equation e = mc2 or energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. But no one ever found an actual source for the quote, so it’s dubious that Einstein was the original speaker of that question. It’s important to ask it, though. Because all our preparations for life depend upon it.

If we think the universe is indifferent we have to struggle with everything alone. If we think it’s unfriendly we must prepare to defend ourselves against its onslaught. If we think the universe is friendly, we approach it that way ourselves, and, as we know in Science of Mind, what we focus on we get more of.

Today we’ll be exploring fear and how it limits our possibilities severely. We may never be able to answer the question with certainty, so let’s consider it from a “quality of life” perspective and see where our relationship with the universe lands with each of the three interpretations.
