There is an indigenous Tewa song devoted to connection with the earth and sky. It begins, “Oh, our Mother the Earth, oh, our Father the Sky, your children are we…” In the time of our ancestors, the people who grew or gathered food, and the people who fished in the rivers, lakes and oceans, understood deeply how dependent we were upon our earth, and how amazingly abundantly she responded to care and attention. With industry and technology, we’ve moved away from those reminders. Separation from the source of our nourishment has spiritually impoverished us. Let’s consider how we might awaken these connections once again.
