Stories have been used by all cultures to teach children, and emphasize to communities, the values of that culture. Every spiritual tradition has some version of the Golden Rule. Cultures thrive on community good, individual freedoms, kindness and fairness. Little children seem to innately know when someone is being treated unfairly or unkindly. Human beings have a built-in sense of what is right and good and what isn’t. They have to be taught to hate and fear others. Stories are used to teach these prejudices also. Today we’ll consider a few old tales that teach universal principles of love in a compelling way.
