“Remembering, Honoring, Celebrating Our Ancestors” (04/23/23)

Rev. Mary Murray Shelton

What if we don’t know who our ancestors were? If a person is adopted, or part of a diaspora from the original homeland they may not know anything about that heritage or family background. But all of us have ancestors, whether we know them or not.

We can learn from our ancestors, even if we never knew who they were. How? By honoring what we do know, thinking about our qualities that came from them, perhaps inviting them to make themselves known to us in some gentle but recognizable ways. We are never as far from them as we might think we are.
